Blast Off Season 3

I’ve always been a supporter of the local underground acts since back in the day when Positive Tone Records released their 1st album, which consist of all the English acts like OAG and Poetic Ammo. The English acts in Malaysia were like an endangered species. In a small group with not much room to grow. Comparing that back in 96 to 2007 the numbers of English acts has come and gone but the number is still diminutive.

Although I don’t like Too Phat, I must give them pros for bringing English music to the mainstream. Groups like OAG, Poetic Ammo, Reeffa have been laying the groundwork for others to make the name in the industry. There were much guidance given to encourage English acts in our Malaysian market only recently with Malaysian Idol and Blast Off. For those who have no idea what Blast off is, it’s a competition where rock bands and vocal groups compete for a record deal. And each year these acts get better and better.

This year the competition was extremely tight, I never liked sms competition but this time I was reeled in, I was voting for some of the bands. There were a couple bands and a vocal group that I was cheering for which I did hope to see them reach the finals or at least win the competition.

One of the rock bands I was voting for was Aunty Mabel’s from Klang, which had the 70’s rock, feel to their presentation. The other band that was cheering for was CODA, a mix group who had a high-octane level of performance that could carry Muse songs well and also other rock genre. As for the vocal group I was cheering for Ghetto Republic. I was just being racist on this one, they were an Indian group and obviously brown people don’t get much support. On the fair side they were quite good group from Kajang who I believe under proper guidance could go far.

Hitz.Tv has done a good job organizing the competition yearly. This competition has been the launch platform for some certain local artist, for example Syko G. He is now one of the best turntablists of the country and now making his name in the Techno arena. I really do hope we are able to cultivate more English acts in the country and make Malaysia more famous. The Chinese speaking community has already done that, few acts like Michael & Victor has done us proud by making their name and subtly caring Malaysia on its back.

This seasons the winners for Blast Off 3 rock group was Aunty Mabels and the Vocal group was Tricky Tongue. Both this bands get RM20, 000 each along with an all-expensive music video of their own single. I do wish we have more English acts in the future. Malaysia Boleh! ! !

My New Obsession

Diary: I'm Going to Xiamen

This week had been a fun week for me why you might ask? Well I did many things one being was shopping. Well let’s start from the beginning. Monday right up to Thursday had been as per usual. I’m now in charge of 3 high priority secret cases, which are running concurrently, and the datelines are all closed together. Funny I’m not as stressed maybe later when the datelines comes close… Aarghhh.

I don’t normally work hard on Friday, I’m mostly on my goof off mode but I got a surprise email on Friday at 6pm. The company wanted me to go to Xiamen for 5 days for some seminar. Yes!! I’m going to Xiamen; I’m going To Xiamen (doing my dance). I leave on Saturday and I only come back on Thursday the week after that. I’m so excited, damm now I need a camera to document proof that I’ve been to China.

On Saturday I was busying myself to get some new pants KLCC had good bargain and it was too hard to look away. I got to pair of jeans from BUM, slacks from G2000 and khakis pants from Padini. I was lil worried to by tops cause as you know I’m fat nothing these days looks good on a fat guy and what’s worse its hard to get sizes. Wonder if I should dress up like Fat Albert… Hei Hei Hei.

Sunday was the same routine Church at St Johns. A Philippino priest kept the mass and throughout the whole mass I had the Black Eyed Peas song in my mind “Bobet” (Check link to know what I’m talking out http://angeldemon.imeem.com/music/_PVZ6-N_/bebot/ ) After mass I meet Stephanie and her mum, was surprised to see them there as they always went to Sacred Hearts Church. After mass it was usual routine breakfast at KLCC. A peaceful time with my newspaper and my dear old self. I got some supplies from the pharmacy as a precaution for my trip.
I’m so excited for my trip… wish me luck and safe trip yeah

Fishing Story

The Japanese love fresh fish. However, the waters close to Japan have not held many fish for decades. So to feed the Japanese population, fishing boats got bigger and went farther than ever. The farther the fishermen went, the longer it took to bring in the fish. If the return trip took more than a few days, the fish were not fresh. The Japanese did not like the taste

To solve this problem, fishing companies installed freezers on their boats. They would catch the fish and freeze them at sea. Freezers allowed the boats to go farther and stay longer. However, the Japanese could taste the difference between fresh and frozen and they did not like frozen fish. The frozen fish brought a lower price.

So fishing companies installed fish tanks. They would catch the fish and stuff them in the tanks, fin to fin. After a little thrashing around, the fish stopped moving. They were tired and dull, but alive. Unfortunately, the Japanese could still taste the difference. Because the fish did not move for days, they lost their fresh-fish taste. The Japanese preferred the lively taste of fresh fish, not sluggish fish.

So how did Japanese fishing companies solve this problem? How do they get fresh-tasting fish to Japan? If you were consulting the fish industry, what would you recommend?

Too Much Money

How Japanese Fish Stay Fresh

To keep the fish tasting fresh, the Japanese fishing companies still put the fish in the tanks. But now they add a small shark to each tank. The shark eats a few fish, but most of the fish arrive in a very lively state.

The fish are challenged.

Recommendations
Instead of avoiding challenges, jump into them. Beat the heck out of them. Enjoy the game. If your challenges are too large or too numerous, do not give up. Failing makes you tired. Instead, reorganize. Find more determination, more knowledge, more help.

If you have met your goals, set some bigger goals. Once you meet your personal or family needs, move onto goals for your group, the society, even mankind.

Don’t create success and lie in it. You have resources, skills and abilities to make a difference. Put a shark in your tank and see how far you can really go!

Singapore Cheats ! ! !

I watched Malaysia vs. Singpore yesterday, not because I was doing my patriotic duty but because due to last minute managerial decision my team had to cover the sports event and we didn’t have and feed for it. At one point I was quite proud to see Malaysia take the lead from Singapore but of course a typical Malaysian football team we gave it all away. It was nice to see them being fitted with the new Nike jersey but like the saying says the threads don’t make the man. It didn’t matter how cool or atrocious the jersey was it didn’t effect how crappy the Malaysian team played. What was more embarrassing is that the football team I played with in my high school came up with better set pieces.

Not only to complain on the Malaysian team, I also noticed that there are many exports from the Singapore team. I fairly caught a Englishmen, a Black dude and a Chinaman. I know they are racist remarks but that’s not a pure Singapore team. Some way along the way when Malaysia used to beat the crap out of Singapore the Singaporeans kind of wised up and started giving foreigners green cards so that they could play for the national team.

It obvious now that Malaysian is going to lose this coming Saturday in Singapore. But it would be nice though if Malaysian were to win and the watch Nokia Football Crazy the host are bit too Singapore bias. Love to see the face when Corkhill does his segment. Anyway please do Visit Malaysia 2007…. We need the business.

Guts & Balls

We've all heard about people having guts or balls. But do you really knowthe difference between them? In an effort to keep you informed, the definition for each is listed below...

GUTS - is arriving home late after a night out with the guys, being met by your wife with a broom, and then asking her: "Are you stillcleaning, or are you flying somewhere?"

BALLS - is coming home late after a night out with the guys, Smelling of perfume and beer, lipstick on your collar, slapping your wife on the butt and saying: "You're next."

I hope this clears up any confusion on the definitions. Medically speaking, there is no difference in the outcome since both ultimately result in death.

Mobile Phones Dirtier than Toilet Seats

Some new research has been published which reveals that there's actually more filth on our phones than the average toilet seat cover. The phones contained more skin bacteria than the any other object; this could be due to the fact that this type of bacteria increases in high temperatures and our phones are perfect for breeding these germs as they're kept warm and cozy in our pockets, handbags and brief cases. Mobile phone retailer Dial-a-Phone conducted the study taking swabs from everyday objects and analyzing the bacteria found on them. The results found that there's more muck on our mobiles than the average door handle, keyboard, and bottom of a shoe or even a toilet seat.

The research confirmed the presence of skin bacteria including staphylococcus aureus on the phone, keyboard, toilet seat and door handle. The shoe in contrast had bacteria from the soil and air. Joanne Verran, Professor of Microbiology at Manchester Metropolitan University comments: "Mobile phones, like many everyday objects such a telephones and computer keyboards, harbor bacteria. However, being 'mobile', they are stored in bags or pockets, are handled frequently, and held close to the face. In other words, they come into contact with more parts of our body and a wider range of bacteria than toilet seats"

A Dial-a-Phone spokesperson comments: "We take our phones everywhere, being in close contact with our mouths, hands and faces their bound to collect all sorts of nasty germs. The images make look scary but our advice to phone users is to ensure they clean them regularly with an antibacterial wipe"

Liverpool Joke

Benitez sent scouts out around the world looking for a new striker to replace Michael Owen who had gone to Newcastle. One of the scouts informs him of a young Iraqi striker who he thinks will turn out to be a true superstar.The Liverpool manager flies to Baghdad to watch him and is suitably impressed and arranges for him to come over to Anfield.Two weeks later Liverpool are 4-0 down to Man Utd with only 20 minutes left. The manager gives the young Iraqi striker the nod and on the field he goes.

The lad is a sensation, scores 5 in 20 minutes and wins the game for Liverpool. The fans are delighted, the players and coaches are delighted and the media love the new star.When the lad comes off the pitch, he phones his mum to tell her about his first day in English football . "Hello mum, guess what?" he says. "I played for 20 minutes today, we were 4-0 down but I scored 5 and we won. Everybody loves me, the fans, the media, they all love me"."Wonderful," says his mum. Passive Malaya

What has happened to the people of Malaysia? I noticed these days that we seem to accept everything at face value and do not intend to question the decision that is made. Good example is the toll hike, we all complain about it but nothing is done about it. We don’t fight back. Mum recently just informed me that the cukai pintu just increased by another RM20. Why the sudden hike?

Why aren’t heads rolling for the flood that is happening in JB? I think the top managements people ruling the flood areas need to be taken action. I heard somebody comment that JB has no proper channel to let the water go out? Do you really think this is a smart comment? We all have seen a Malaysian Map, Johor is at the very tip and they are water on the left and right of it. Why can’t we build a temporary channel to remove the water? Hasn’t the government allocated a budget to change the drainage or we just concentrate on KL and no place else. Johor is next to Singapore you don’t hear them being flooded or sinked. The idea of Singapore being sinked is cool though…

Its visit Malaysia 2007 and with the flood in JB what do you think the foreign press will say. They would say Malaysia hit by flood. Then no one comes to visit us and the 32 million we spent on the Eye On Malaysia would be a waste. We need to think! We seem to give up the right to do so.

Warren Buffet

There was a one hour interview on CNBC with Warren Buffet, the second richest man who has donated $31 billion to charity. Here are some very interesting aspects of his life:

1) He bought his first share at age 11 and he now regrets that he started too late !

2) He bought a small farm at age 14 with savings from delivering newspapers.

3) He still lives in the same small 3 bedroom house in mid-town Omaha, that he bought after he got married 50 years ago. He says that he has everything he needs in that house. His house does not have a wall or a fence.

4) He drives his own car everywhere and does not have a driver or security people around him.

5) He never travels by private jet, although he owns the world's largest private jet company.

6) His company, Berkshire Hathaway, owns 63 companies. He writes only one letter each year to the CEO's of these companies, giving them goals for the year. He never holds meetings or calls them on a regular basis.

7) He has given his CEO's only two rules. Rule number 1: do not lose any of your shareholder's money. Rule number 2: Do not forget rule number 1.

8) He does not socialize with the high society crowd. His past time after he gets home is to make himself some pop corn and watch television.

WHY EMPLOYEES LEAVE ORGANIZATIONS ? - Azim Premji, CEO- Wipro

Every company faces the problem of people leaving the company for betterpay or profile. Early this year, Mark, a senior software designer, got an offer from aprestigious international firm to work in its Indiaoperations developing specialized software. He was thrilled by the offer.

He had heard a lot about the CEO. The salary was great. The company had all the right systems in place employee-friendlyhuman resources (HR) policies, a spanking new office, and the very besttechnology, even a canteen that served superb food. Diary: I'm Back

Hi there,

It’s been 2 weeks since I’ve blogged. Why you ask? Why such a long big gap? Well I wasn’t busy working I was on holiday. I didn’t go any place particular but I just needed to rest myself and get things to perspective. This year as much as I want to excel in work I plan to make that my second priority now. Time to concentrate on other things. This year they should be more concerts and gigs that I would like to go. I’m thinking of going to MUSE.

Well I got to leave now loads of thing pending. 2 weeks of mail to revert back and a new project I’m working on. I catch u lovely people soon.

Story 1

The pas 4 days I’ve been leaving early just to have a quick bath and to take care of my neighbours kid. I must say there is nothing better having a 8 month year old kid in your arms in the teething stage where they just want to bite everything, doesn’t matter if your shoulder. Have you caught Rob-B-Hood, it stars Jackie Chan and Leo Ku as 2 burglars who kidnap a baby and have to take care of it for 2 weeks. I felt like them. It was nice to play daddy for a while…


Story 2

This week I headed to Ipoh to help a Hindu home orphanage. Many of you still think there is ‘udang sebalik batu’ when I tell you I’m doing charity work. Well there isn’t and if by now you still don’t believe me I don’t give a rat’s ass. Well the team met up at Menara Millennium at 8 and we left around 8.30. We loaded the cars with gifts and we headed to Ipoh. Fiona, Farah, Jo and Sue were in Halmy’s car where Sugar and me was in Padma’s roomy Sorrento.

We arrived at 11 at the orphanage. There was a clown cum magician there. Weird dude with raffia string as hair and with a weird multicolour pants. He was a funny man with some good magic trick. The kinds we vegetarian and we served lunch I honestly thought that were such a sin. How could you be a vegetarian in a place like Ipoh where food is haven. We didn’t get to mingle with the kids like how it was in Kajang. After lunch we headed to Ipoh town. I got some stuff like home made Jellbeas and Ompodi. We stopped by a café and had a white coffee and soft bun. The coffee was excellent. On our way home we stopped by at Tapah to get its famous jambu batu. I got that for mum. She loves it.

Diary: Happy Birthday ol Friend

Last Friday was Yoges birthday, I wasn’t really dressed nor looked the part for a party but I meet him at Shrroms. Mel was there too. These are the person who holds strands to my past. Its been awhile since I’ve met them thus it was a lil awkward at first as they had conversation either I was not to know about or I had no clue about. This happes when you don’t meet them for a while I guess. Sharon and her friend just the dinner and gladly paid for it, Melman got Yoges a birthday gift and I absent minded forgot to get him one…. Terrible friend I am.

After dinner we headed to this new club called Aloha. It was Hawaiian themed club 4 storeys high. It also had a basement techno club with real good interior design. Most of the Thai club people are working now in so it was easy to get discounted drinks. The club had a crappy live band though; it was a Malay band that couldn’t pronounce the words properly. The in-house DJ was good though played upcoming beats. The party ended up at 3 in the morning. The guys had supper at Petaling Street and then all headed back. It was already 4 in the morning by the time I reached home. I took a quick shower and I drop myself into the world of slumber,

I expected only to wake up past afternoon but I was up by 8 in the morning. I just couldn’t sleep back, that didn’t mean I was off my bed I still lazed in my bed hoping I would fall back to slumber. I got up at 11; there was no one at home and nothing to eat. I was too lazy to go out to do my X’mas shopping but I finally dragged my feet out of the home. I started my shopping at Sg Wang. I got some PS2 gifts for my cousins and I had to go to the DVD shop ended up buying 10 DVD’s. God don’t I have the will to stop spending?

I had lunch at Lot 10; they had 3 Tenors singing carols. Nearly broke my heart, they sounded beautiful thought of home and my brother who I dearly miss. After lunch I headed to KLCC to major shopping. I got loads of stuff and I also sidetracked and got a shirt for myself. I headed to Kinokuniya to get a book that I lost. I lost My Best Friends Girl by Dorothy Koomson Cant remember where I left it. After shopping I headed to the barbers for lil trim, as I desperately needed one. It was already 6.30 by the time I reached home. I was dead tired; mum was busy sewing curtains for Christmas. Mum made an amazing dinner, which were buttered prawns and kangkung belacan. Yum Yum.

Sunday I attended mass at St John’s. Mass was as per usual… BORING. I headed to Lotus for breakfast. I was killing time, as I needed to pick up my shoes that I sent to be stitched and resoled. I ended up not picking up my shoes as they place was closed. Dam! ! !

Seasonal Security Announcement

With the holiday season almost upon us, now is a good time to remind ourselves to take steps to make sure Christmas isn't spoiled by criminals. Criminals take the opportunities afforded them by the extra shopping we do, the hustle and bustle of town centres as we rush around, and the value of the goods we buy as presents and store in our homes until the big day. We might also be more trusting and generous at Christmas when requests for charity are made, giving the unscrupulous a chance to collect for their own causes.

So what can we do?

Out on the Town

With office parties and general Christmas celebrations, bars, restaurants and other venues are often crowded. Don't leave bags over the back of your chair and keep wallets and purses close to your body to make it more difficult for the pickpocket. Busy places make it easier for the sneak thief, so be alert at all times. Make prior arrangements as to how you will get home. Avoid any potential disturbances on the street. Stay with friends if you can. Make sure someone knows where you are going and what time you will be back. Don't drink too much - you could become a target for thieves.

Out Shopping

When the shops are crowed, the pickpocket has more chance to steal from you. If you can't arrange to shop during less busy times, make sure you stay alert and be extra careful with your wallet or purse. If you have too many bags you will be too busy trying to hold on to these to be aware of anyone stealing from you. You could try to make smaller shopping trips rather than do it all at once and carry too much. Have your purse/wallet close to your body and don't carry too much cash. The same applies to travelling on crowded buses or trains. If you travel by car, make sure you park in a well- lit area, lock all doors and windows and do not leave presents in view. Try not to return to your car to leave purchases in the boot before continuing with your shopping trip as thieves may well watch car parks for just such a chance. Arrange to collect heavy items from stores when you have finished all your shopping. Keep your chequebook and cheque card separately.

At Home

Having bought all those wonderful presents, don't make it easy for someone to steal from your home. Keep them out of sight until last thing on Christmas Eve and if you 'hide' or store larger items such as bicycles in the shed or outbuildings, make sure they are very secure. Now is a good time to check that you know what you have both normally (TV, Video etc) and with the extra presents you have bought. You may well find you need to check your insurance to make sure you are covered for the value of goods in your home. Take the frame numbers of new cycles and the serial numbers of new electrical equipment for future reference. Remember, empty boxes left outside advertise that you have new goods inside - dispose of packing carefully.

If you go out for the evening - make it look like someone is at home by turning on lights and the radio. Don't leave curtains open so people can see your decorations as potential thieves can see in. Be extra careful about locking doors and windows.

If you go away for the holiday period - use an automatic timer for lights and ask a trusted neighbour to watch your home. Don't forget to cancel newspapers and milk if you have them delivered and either redirect your mail through the Post Office or have your neighbour take mail into the house - unopened Christmas cards and mail are a sure sign that a house is empty.

Strangers at the door - genuine delivery personnel usually have identification, uniforms and liveried vehicles and should not need to come into your home. Charity collectors will have identification and will not be offended if you ask to see it. If you are not sure but want to make a donation, ask whether these can be made in other ways, perhaps through a bank.

Before I go ranting about my not so important life I would like to get off something on my chest. On Saturday 1.15am Mrs Inez Veronica McCoy passed away. She leaves behind 2 sons. I didn’t know the lady personally but I knew her fruits of her labour. She grew up 2 wonderful kind-hearted sons. I rise up a prayer for the lady…

I’m so not in the mood for work, I want to go on my X’mas holidays. Mindshare is having their company trip to Istanbul on the Eve of New Year. I’m so envious as they only had to pay RM500 for their trip. Padma and Halmy will be extending their trip to Greece as well. I plan to do my X’mas shopping this weekend I’ve mostly bought the things I need but there are few gifts I need to get. Times are bad with me so you guys wont receive as pricey gift as you guys normally do.

I meet up with Shari on Friday we had dinner at Decanter. We talked and we laughed I believe one of us laughed so much till our cheeks hurt so bad. Decanter was decorated with the Christmas feel I felt so comfortable in the restaurant. Shari & I had steak and we shared apple pie alamode. Yum yum.

On Saturday I got up early I headed to town to settle some of my bills, I headed to SFC for breakfast. I needed to get Uncle David a gift so I headed to Isetan, couldn’t find much so I headed to Kinokuniya and got him a real nice pen. I met Andrew at KL Sentral so we could head to Klang. Kelvin and I were throwing a dinner together for Aunt Ire and Uncle David. We got some local dishes like ying yong and hokkien mee, yong tau fu and some nyoya kuih’s. Lil Michael sat on my lap as he sat his meal and after all was done and over we sat down and watched the Grinch. He was a lil fidgety but he did enjoy the movie. Hats off to Jim Carrey for pulling out the Grinch perfectly. That’s my favourite Xmas movie.

Diary: Presentation, Red Carpet, High Tea

This week there are only 3 days worth mentioning, which is Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You might have noticed that my blog now plays music. Thanks to Cavell for teaching how to do it and making me love My Chemical Romance. I’m so hooked to Mama. It had a little a mixture of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody in it. Thanks Cavell for the music link and for bringing back ROCK into my life.

Friday was the ‘D’ day for me. It was my BIG presentation with Disney. I was a nervous wreck couldn’t do much work the whole day as I just kept thinking about it. Padma and Halmy came over for lunch at Pelita and they course took a ‘mick’ at me as I was smartly dressed on a Friday. After lunch I headed to Isetan to get some Disney cookies, I’ve watched Apprentice and you will know that effort in presentation always carries some marks and I wanted to reflect it. I wanted the job. Lester began by giving the company profiles and I did the Disney presentation. I was nervous and I must say it did show in my presentation luckily Lester helped me out.

The lady I believe was quite impressed with the presentation as I provided her fact she didn’t know about Disney herself. She asked me if I wanted a job in Disney Japan? Exciting in it. I already can hear the beat to Teriyaki Boys already… Fast and Furiyooooo

Shahbaz was in town to present 2007 budget to the Directors. After his presentation we left to Kinokuniya. He wanted to buy his comic books and I wanted to pick my Harlem Coben Book, Fade Away. I had to special order the book, as it was no longer in their stock. After hanging out with Shahbaz I headed to Bangsar Shopping Centre Chillies to meet up with Anusha and Farah. We had a small meal and we talked for a while. BSC had already done their decorations for Christmas.

Saturday I attended EH! 20 Yang Anggun Party. I got an invite courtesy of Shari from the Blue Inc Group. The event was held at Espanda. It’s been a really long time since I entered Espanada or Emporioum for those who knew it back in the day. The interior decoration to me felt like it was a big living room with drapes hung from the ceiling and large comfy sofas. There were loads of local celebrities and fashion designers at the event. The whole place was swamped with HOT Malay chicks. It was like kryptonite to me. I had extra tickets so I brought Rahiza along with me. It was nice to see for a change Shari working hard. Hahahaha…

On Sunday I attended mass at Divine Mercy Shah Alam. The church was so beautiful. I loved the way they did the Mary’s grotto it felt so peaceful. They had no place to light candles, what they had was one of those mechanical ones. You put in a Ringgit and an electrical candle would light up. After mass we headed to Hotel Grand Blue Wave at Shah Alam for high tea. After high tea we headed home. I was too lazy to do any chores so I only ironed 2 shirts for work and I lazed about. I must get around to do it.
